"Hello, Bob"

by Wild Bill Blackerby & Piney Woods

Scenario
Billy the Kid and his gang were running thru New Mexico leaving a bloody path. Lincoln County Sheriff Pat Garrett followed that trail and eventually captured Billy. After being sentenced to hang, the Kid was locked up in the Lincoln County courthouse to await his date with the hangman.

On April 28, 1881, while guard Bob Olinger was across the street having lunch, the shackled Kid got hold of a gun supposedly hidden in the privy and shot guard J. W. Bell, then killed Olinger from a second story window with his own shotgun. Afterward he calmly walked out of the courthouse still shackled, grabbed a horse, and made his getaway.
